Congratulations! You’re the mom friend of the group.

You’re the responsible, kind, and dependable friend. Unfortunately, you’re in a situation where you have to take care of your friend when they’re tripping balls. Heightened anxiety and confusion may occur to a person who has consumed too much cannabis at one time. Here are some tips in order to prevent a bad trip and take care of yourself and your friends when you’re too high.

1. Find out what your limits are (and your friend’s too)

You need to know how much you can smoke to have a good time and a SAFE time. It’s important to know how much you can tolerate depending on the different products you use. Take note of how much you consumed from each product that you have used during a smoke session. To learn more, we recommend going to Hytiva’s article on how to find your tolerance level. You need to take care of yourself before you can start taking care of other people.

However, a simple trick to finding your tolerance level is by starting off slowly by inhaling a puff every 15 minutes. Take note of what you’re feeling, and see if you’re high is just right or is getting a little too overwhelming. Try starting off with a product with a lower percentage of THC in order to not get too high too fast. The Golden Glue Hybrid 1g Preroll from Stoneroads Farms is a great product to start easing into while smoking.

If you’re trying edibles for the first time, try eating an edible with a dosage of 10 mg of THC. It takes about 30 minutes to get high off an edible, so do not eat multiple edibles at one time. This is a really easy way to experience a bad weed trip instead of a good one.

2. Someone is freaking out — time to make them take a nap.

It’s easy to get really anxious and paranoid, but you got to tell your friend some deep breaths and sit down for a moment. Tell them to keep in mind that you can’t overdose on cannabis. Bring them somewhere where they can close their eyes, calm down, and maybe take a nap. Remind them that bad trips don’t last longer than a few hours. Make sure to reassure them that everything is alright, that there is a safe place, and that they’re in good company.

3. Hydrate and eat all you want with your munchies

Keeping your friend hydrated. It’s important to keep yourself hydrated when you’re smoking. Avoid cotton mouth by drinking sips of water throughout your trip. Keep yourself busy with some water and snacks, and avoid alcohol. Alcohol is especially bad for bad trips because they can  “increase THC blood concentrations” (Leafly).

4. If you’re in an emergency, go to the professionals

On the rare occasion that things go apeshit, go to the ER or call 911. Safety should be your #1 priority when you come across a scary situation. We applaud you for taking care of your friends when you’re too high.

Remember to have fun, stay safe, and smoke in an area where you feel comfortable!

Happy smoking!
